August 9, 2014
This week Ken and Kerry McKenzie, Yaralla Stud, Blackwater continued with their prize winners in the prime cattle arena taking home the Reserve Champion Pen Of Grainfed Steers at the Royal National Association, commonly referred to as the Brisbane Royal.
The winning pen in the class for steers with the liveweight of 481-600kg consisted of a purebred pen of 6 milk tooth entries that weighed on average 593.7kg. The winners went onto take out the Reserve Champion ribbon and to sell for 250c/kg (approx $1484.25/head). (Pictured: Reserve Champion Grainfed Steers)
The Yaralla prefix also scored a third placing with their Droughtmaster cross pen of 6 grainfed entries in the 601-720kg liveweight class. These steers averaged 651kg liveweight and fetched 242c/kg or around $1575.42/head. The victories were made even more special by the fact that this was the first time the prefix had exhibited at the Brisbane Royal.
